About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at Smallpdf and play a key role in safeguarding our business operations, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and providing expert legal advice across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice and counsel on data protection topics, contract and corporate law, and other legal matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including data protection agreements, customer and vendor contracts, employment agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Manage data breaches and other legal emergencies that may arise.
  • Lead compliance projects in cross-disciplinary teams, including working closely with engineering teams.
  • Work closely with our HR department on employment matters and phantom stock option plans.
  • Improve internal policies and processes on legal and compliance matters.
  • Deliver advice on how to manage legal and compliance risks and report risks to management as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary to ensure that the legal team meets its commitments to stakeholders.
  • General corporate governance, including drafting board resolutions and updating commercial registers.

Requirements

  • Experience as a general counsel or in a senior legal role.
  • LLM (master of law) or equivalent degree in law and certified/qualified lawyer/bar license in Switzerland or abroad.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Swiss legislation.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of data protection, contract, and corporate law.
  • Experience working with product teams.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in a high-paced environment.
  • Excellent English skills and ability to review and negotiate contracts in German (spoken and written).
