Design Innovative Magnet Systems

CERN is seeking a skilled Magnet Design Engineer to join its team of experts in the field of high-field magnet technologies. As a key member of the MSC-SMT section, you will play a vital role in advancing superconducting model magnets for future accelerators.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating new concepts, procedures, and tools to produce small-scale models of CERN's next-generation superconducting magnets. This involves tasks such as coil winding, high-temperature heat treatment in controlled gas atmospheres, vacuum impregnation, electrical connections, and instrumentation, as well as the mechanical assembly of delicate components.

About the Role
  • You will collaborate with the design team to develop magnet components and specialized tooling.
  • Proficiency in CATIA (or a similar 3D design software) is essential.
Requirements
  • Technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Technical drawing (ISO standard) and CAD Software (CATIA) proficiency;
  • Understanding of mathematical and geometry;
  • Knowledge of industry standards and codes;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills for effective team collaboration;
  • Proactive problem-solving skills;
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintain high-quality standards on a daily basis;
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities;
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
What We Offer
  • A monthly stipend of **€5,519** (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse, and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child, and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
