CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is seeking a skilled Magnet Engineer to join its team. As a key member of the Normal Conducting Magnet section, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing magnets for the AWAKE experiment, a pioneering proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze, design, and optimize normal conducting accelerator magnets using electromagnetic simulation tools.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of physicists, engineers, and technicians to meet functional requirements and project deadlines.
  • Follow up on the manufacture, measurement, and quality assurance of normal conducting magnets, providing technical support and expertise.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, including specifications, drawings, and reports.
Requirements
  • Experience with design of electromagnetic devices.
  • Ability to travel within the member states or associate member states as required.
  • Fluent in English, with the ability to work in French an advantage.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Professional background in Electromechanics (or a related field) with a Master's degree and 2-6 years of post-graduation professional experience, or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).

  • Depending on individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
