High-Temperature Superconductor Magnet Designer
vor 4 Wochen
As a Mechanical Engineer at CERN, you will be part of the team responsible for designing magnets using high-temperature superconductors. Your work will involve the design of superconducting coils and related support structures, utilizing both analytical approaches and finite element computations.
Another key aspect of this role is the measurement and characterization of cable mechanical properties. You will be required to conceive testing devices, oversee their construction, conduct measurements, and analyze the results. Additionally, you will support the procurement of components and tools for assembling support structures of prototype coils.
Your time will be divided approximately 50% between computations and 50% between practical construction supervision and laboratory activities. A strong knowledge of finite element codes and Python programming languages is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out FEM computations
- Good knowledge of mechanical engineering practices
- Fluency in English; ability to work in French a plus
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Professional background in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Either Master's degree with 2-6 years of post-graduation professional experience or PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience
- No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract
