Why we are recruiting

The Forum is seeking to recruit for the position of Director, Global Plastics Action Partnership (GPAP), a multi-stakeholder platform dedicated to translating commitments to reduce plastic pollution and waste into concrete action. It aims to shape a more sustainable and inclusive world through the eradication of plastic pollution by engaging with governments, regional bodies, international organisations, and business, as well as innovators and civil society organizations. Reporting lines and interactions

The position will sit within the Forum’s Centre for Nature and Climate. The role will be based in the Forum’s offices, i.e., either Geneva or New York, with frequent regional and international travel.

Main responsibilities

The Director will lead and manage the GPAP secretariat, shape the strategic direction of GPAP in

collaboration with its steering board, governing council and advisory board; engage the stakeholders across the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) chapters, ensure objectives and

deliverables are met; conduct fundraising and oversee impact measurement and reporting.

As GPAP is a highly networked partnership, the Director will engage with all its partners and constituents, as well as with the World Economic Forum’s partners and communities.- Continue to strengthen GPAP as an impactful platform for dialogue and solution delivery to address the global plastics pollution challenge- Provide the overall leadership and drive for the GPAP program globally, ensuring timely execution of strategy aligned to the theory of change and grant deliverables- Manage and engage relevant stakeholders as part of an action oriented and cross-organizational collaborative partnership- Lead a high-performing and mission-driven team to deliver GPAP’s objectives- Champion the importance of collective action to tackling the complex challenge of plastic pollution globally, advancing thought leadership and representing GPAP and the broader community we serve at key external events.- Work closely with the GPAP governing council, advisory board and steering board as an extended network of partners to advance its mission and impact- Secure, administer and provide governance to the resources and funding from donor governments and organizations, deploying it to the most impactful activities at national and regional levels- Assume responsibility for the overall budget, reporting and compliance requirements of the global budget.- Align with the mission and values of the World Economic Forum and act as a trustee of its stakeholdersPreferred requirements and experience- Have at least 15 years of professional experience in management of sustainability programs and people leadership capabilities, international business and stakeholder engagement, corporate social and environmental responsibility, related economic policy, social development and political economy issues- Proven understanding of the issue of plastic pollution, including in-depth knowledge of global plastics supply chains, impacts of plastics on the environment (especially the marine environment), waste management, related legislation and the political landscape in which this issue currently sits- Have at least a master’s degree or equivalent experience in environment and resource management issues, sustainability, environmental economics, finance, economic policy and/or business strategy- An understanding of the issue of plastic pollution, especially in the context of developing and emerging economies, is desired- Have experience working in an international and multicultural environment and possess strong knowledge in the key areas of building and delivering global public-private partnerships- Have a strong interest in deepening public-private collaboration and committed to the objectives of GPAP and the mission of the Forum- Have perfect command of written and spoken English; fluency in at least one other language is an advantage- Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills; a positive team player, hardworking and an inspirational leader
