**Overall Purpose**

The External Relations Director is a key function responsible for leading a global team responsible for external affairs and donor relations in the public and private sector. The Director will manage relations with key stakeholders and help positioning GARDP as a key player in the global AMR policy landscape. He/she will manage all existing donor relations liaising with senior officials and open new relations, including in the private sector. He/she will actively engage to raise GARDP’s profile engaging with key stakeholders and potential new donors. He/she is responsible for developing and implementing GARDP’s fundraising policy with a view to retain existing donors, expand the donor base and increase the annual budget in close collaboration with all relevant Departments.

He/she reports to and works with the Deputy Executive Director of GARDP to design strategy and objectives for fundraising, coordinate with policy advocacy strategies and develop relationships with new entities and potential funders to actively raise GARDP’s profile.

**Contribution**

The External Relations Director will be a member of the global management team. S/he contributes to the development of GARDP’s strategy and business plans and is accountable for implementing the annual action plan at the Department level. S/he innovates and positions the programs under his/her responsibility to adapt to the rapidly evolving environment and seize opportunities.

**Tasks and Responsibilities**

**Defines and oversees GARDP’s fundraising strategy and successful implementation**
- Manages the global fundraising and external affairs team
- Develops and implements GARDP’s fundraising strategy
- Identifies potential public, institutional and private donors, new funding mechanisms and/or new financial models
- Oversees fundraising activities and results
- Forecasts fundraising potential for mid
- and long term
- Along with the other Senior Leaders, takes responsibility for establishing relationships with high-potential donors on behalf of GARDP
- Ensures the balance of various sources of funding, according to the fundraising strategy approved by the Board

**Defines external engagement strategies to promote GARDP
- Develops and recommends external engagement strategies to the Deputy Executive Director based on an analysis of global health environment and proposes strategies and tactics on relevant topics
- Provides information and guidance on engagement with relevant AMR global initiatives to GARDP’s leadership
- Advises on key risks for GARDP’s positioning and messaging that may reflect on the perception of the organization to external entities, funders and governments
- In collaboration with the Head of Policy Advocacy, ensures coherence of GARDPs policy positions with its fundraising and communications strategies and objectives
- Ensures appropriate engagement with the international network of DNDi/GARDP

**Reporting line**

S/he reports to GARDP Deputy Executive Director

**Interactions**
- Oversees the staff working on GARDP fundraising and communication
- Works with Directors of Departments of GARDP, Directors/Heads of Regional Offices, Relevant Directors of DNDi
- S/he represents GARDP at the highest level and interacts with governing bodies, major donors and other leaders of influence.
- S/he creates networks and relationships to expand program interaction and bring resources or expertise.

**Experience**
- Minimum 12 years’ relevant experience including several at senior management level
- Proven track record in raising public, private and institutional funds
- Experience in global health required
- Proven ability to work effectively in a global team and virtual environment

**Education**
- Master degree in relevant field or PhD
