Senior Coffee Trader

JOB SUMMARY & MAIN MISSION

As a Senior Coffee Trader, you will play a key role within our trading division, overseeing and executing complex global coffee trading activities. Reporting directly to the Trading Director, you will also supervise and mentor a Coffee Trader who will report to you. You will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced trading strategies, managing your own portfolio, and contributing to the sustainable growth of our coffee business. Your expertise will be essential in strengthening supplier and customer relationships, ensuring profitable and ethical trading practices, and supporting the overall success of the company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coffee Trading Strategy
  – Develop and implement sophisticated trading strategies for the coffee market, aligned with company objectives and market dynamics.
• Team Supervision
  – Oversee and support a Coffee Trader reporting to you, providing guidance, mentoring, and operational alignment to enhance overall trading performance.
• Portfolio Management
  – Manage an active portfolio of physical coffee trading positions (Arabica preferred), ensuring profitability and performance.
• Market Analysis
  – Monitor global coffee markets, including price trends, supply–demand dynamics, macro factors, and geopolitical influences to support data-driven decisions.
• Supplier and Customer Relations
  – Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with suppliers, producers, and customers, ensuring smooth operations and long-term partnerships.
• Sustainability & Ethics
  – Promote and uphold sustainable and ethical practices in coffee sourcing and trading, with an emphasis on traceability and responsible procurement.
• Risk Management
  – Apply and enhance risk management methods to mitigate exposure to market volatility and ensure robust commercial performance.
• Regulatory Compliance
  – Ensure all trading activities comply with industry regulations, internal policies, and ethical standards.
• Financial Performance
  – Monitor the P&L and KPIs of your trading book, ensuring alignment with budget and company expectations.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
  – Work closely with internal teams (logistics, finance, risk, sustainability) to guarantee efficient and timely execution.
• Reporting
  – Provide regular updates, market insights, and performance reports to the Trading Director and senior management.

YOUR PROFILE

• Degree in Economics, Business, Finance, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
• About 7-10 years of experience in commodities trading, including at least 5 years in coffee (physical Arabica trades preferred).
• Strong understanding of global coffee markets, supply chains, and pricing mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex market data.
• Strong negotiation skills and proven ability to maintain long-term commercial relationships worldwide.
• Ability to coach and supervise a coffee trader while managing your own portfolio.
• Skilled at developing and executing forward-looking trading strategies.
• Commitment to sustainability, transparency, and ethical trading practices.
• Fluency in French and English, Spanish is a plus.
