Product Manager

The Product Manager is responsible for product planning, delivery and marketing throughout the product lifecycle. They will develop a vision and roadmap for the product based on input from internal stakeholders, customers, market research and their own industry insight.
This includes managing the product portfolio by defining new products, managing lifecycle activities to improve existing offerings and product pruning.
The Product Manager positions Bachem as the leading supplier for complex API and defines product strategies and value propositions that meet customer needs.
The Product Manager works closely together with Sales, Business Development and Project Management as well as with Operations (mainly Production, QC, QA, RA) and Global Marketing and leads various cross functional teams.
**Areas of responsibility**
**Assessing and evaluating the portfolio**
- Conduct product-, market-, competitor
- and customer-analyses in close collaboration with Market Intelligence and Sales.
- Organize and lead annual product assessment team meetings. Prepare documentation and information for the meeting. Document results, product assessments, decisions and action items.
- Monitor progress on the action items and participate as SME (Subject Matter Expert) in projects.
**Extending the portfolio**
- Contribute to the NGET (New Generics Evaluation Team) and NSET (New Specialty Evaluation Team) meetings.
- Conduct market research and prepare documentation, business cases and information for the meeting in close collaboration with Market Intelligence and Sales. Document results, decisions and action items.
- Initiate Project Requests in collaboration with Project Management. Monitor progress on the action items and participate as SME in projects.
- Drive product innovations and propose additions of products and services to the portfolio.
**Streamlining the portfolio**
- Initiate and draft the termination letters.
- Monitor progress on exit strategy.
**Drive product sales**
- Together with Sales, responsible for the revenue and revenue growth of the respective portfolio.
- Create Marketing Plans and establish value propositions for the products and services.
- Agree with Sales on Action Plans and prepare promotional material together with Sales and Marketing for various channels according to these plans.
- Prepare and conduct product trainings for selected products (target: Sales managers)
- Work closely together with the Marketing Team regarding the promotion and messaging of products.
- Join Sales on customer visits and trade shows as SME, promote Bachem and products in webinars, presentations etc.
- Responsible for maintaining the price list and for annual/regular updates of it. Monitor competitor pricing and set profitability targets in collaboration with Sales.
**Lifecycle Management**
- Organize and lead the GEN meetings for lifecycle management.
- Prepare documentation and information for the meeting.
- Document results, decisions and action items.
- Drive implementation of defined changes.
- Monitor progress on the action items.
**Miscellaneous**
- Be in close contact with the respective sales organizations to learn about market trends and customer feedback.
- Be in close contact with the Global Marketing regarding market studies, database mining and competitive intelligence
- Monitor competitor activities for the respective products. Track market trends (regulatory strategies, therapeutic areas, etc.).
- Assist in the assessment of product opportunities.
- Propose, evaluate and drive process optimizations.
- Identify potential new Leads in the market.
Other tasks
- Be the recognized expert for the products, the market and relevant technology.
- Visit the respective manufacturing sites.
- Participate in and lead internal meetings.
- Travel time of up to 20%
**Leadership tasks**
- Lead cross functional project teams in a matrix organization.
**Education & Experience**
- PhD in Life Sciences or Master in Life Sciences and a specialization in Marketing or Commercial.
- 3-5 years professional experience in Marketing, Sales or Business Development in a C(D)MO, pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Leadership experience directly or cross functionally.
- Active, initiative personality with excellent presentation and communication skills.
**Knowledge**
- Languages: English and German fluent additional languages especially French are a plus.
- IT: Very good IT knowledge MS Office, CRM and ERP systems (SAP, Salesforce), Database and Social Media.
