Academic Officer Job Description

The Academic Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Academic Managers in maintaining academic oversight of programme delivery, assessment, and monitoring. This includes assisting with stakeholder engagement, programme development, and promotion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Academic Oversight: Assist Academic Managers in maintaining academic oversight of programme delivery, assessment, and monitoring.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders to promote training programmes and ensure effective communication.
  • Programme Development: Manage the development and promotion of training programmes, including curriculum design and delivery.
  • Support to Academic Staff: Support Academic Staff and Faculty in programme design, delivery, assessment, and monitoring.
  • Teacher Selection and Support: Assist with the selection of potential teachers, meetings with them, and negotiation of teaching conditions.
  • Academic Calendar and Schedule: Assist with drafting the Academic Calendar and Schedule.
  • Course Development and Improvement: Assist Faculty in the development and improvement of their courses.
  • Student and Faculty Issues: Coordinate student and faculty issues regularly.
  • Exams, Thesis Supervision, and Feedback: Coordinate exams, thesis supervision, student and faculty feedback process, and grades.
  • Academic Documents: Assist with the update of student handbooks, programme handbooks, and other academic documents.
  • Student Information: Coordinate the creation and management of student information on the academic online portal.
  • Institutional Evaluation and Accreditation: Assist with the coordination of the institution's internal and external evaluation and accreditation process.
  • Student Induction and Progression: Provide support during student induction and progression.
  • Representative Role: Represent the institution at appropriate admissions, marketing, and academic events.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree: Master's degree in international relations, or in political science.
  • Teaching Experience: Teaching experience will be an advantage.
  • Language Skills: Excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of French or any other language is an asset.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to communicate with judgement and diplomacy with students and faculty from different cultures.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to be organized, punctual, and initiate and follow-up tasks.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and database experience.
  • LMS Experience: Experience with Moodle, Odoo, and other LMS systems would be preferred.
  • Training Programmes Development: Experience and familiarity with training programmes development.
  • Teamwork and Results-Oriented: Ability to work independently and as a team member, cope with workload pressure and deadlines, and work in a results-based environment.
  • University-Level Education System: Knowledge of the university-level education system in Switzerland would be preferred.
  • Attributes: Attributes such as being responsible, committed, and loyal to the institution's cause are mandatory.
  • Attitude: An individual with a can-do attitude, positivity, and a bright smile will be given preference.
