PhD Position in Global History and Violence Studies with a Focus on the Southwestern Pacific

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our team at The Biozentrum, University of Basel, to conduct research on the collection of birds in the tropical forests of Northern South America in the second half of the nineteenth century.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent archival research and complete the dissertation within the funding period.
- Participate in advancing the project's overall research goals and collaborate closely with team members.
- Assist with administrative tasks, conference organization, communication, and webpage content management.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in History or a related discipline.
- Fluency in English, our team's working language. Additional language proficiencies relevant to the work package are welcome.
- Ability to take residence in Basel during the entire contract period and travel for field research.
- Experience in archival research and familiarity with the historiography of the Southwestern Pacific's (post-)colonial past.
- Keenness to learn, openness to creative and experimental work, and eagerness to actively participate in the team effort.
