Geomechanical Engineer for Excavated Materials Management

**Job Description**

**Introduction**

CERN's Environment Group is seeking a geomechanical engineer to develop requirements, architecture, and design for a modular excavated materials treatment plant. The ideal candidate has experience in excavation material treatment, large-scale construction projects, and eco-design principles.

**Functions**

The successful candidate will contribute to the study to develop a viable approach for the management of excavated materials. Key responsibilities include gathering technical requirements, working with industrial suppliers, leading prototyping activities, and participating in feasibility tests.

**Qualifications**

A Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. Demonstrated experience in treatment and processing of excavated materials, knowledge of gathering and documenting requirements, and application of environmental regulations are essential.

**Technical Competencies**

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of Environmental Law, underground structure construction, and geology. Drafting and writing of official documents are also required.

**Behavioural Competencies**

Strong problem-solving, self-management, learning, and communication skills are necessary. The ability to work well in groups and participate in team activities is also essential.

**Language Skills**

Spoken and written English or French are required. Ability to understand and speak the other language in professional contexts is an advantage.
