Geomechanical Engineer for Large-Scale Excavation Project

CERN, a world-renowned scientific organization, seeks a highly skilled Geomechanical/Geotechnical Engineer to join our Environment Group. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing the requirements, architecture, and design for a modular excavated materials treatment plant within the Future Circular Collider study.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year

This position involves working closely with industrial partners to gather technical requirements, lead prototyping activities, and manage feasibility tests for excavated material reuse pathways. Strong expertise in soil treatment, large-scale subsurface construction projects, and environmental regulations is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gather and document technical requirements for excavated material treatment and processing.
  • Work with industrial suppliers to develop a modular excavated materials treatment plant incorporating eco-design principles.
  • Lead prototyping activities for excavated material treatment and characterization.
  • Manage feasibility tests for excavated material reuse pathways.
  • Liaise with CERN's civil engineering team on the FCC study.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in treatment and processing of excavated materials, especially mechanical sorting and granulometry reduction methods.
  • Solid knowledge of gathering and documenting requirements according to industrial best practices and tools.
  • Application of environmental regulations related to excavated material storage, transport, and reuse.
  • Experience in applying eco-design principles.
