As a Geologist with a background in subsurface engineering and excavated materials management, you will contribute to the development of reuse pathways for excavated materials in the frame of the Future Circular Collider study.

The successful candidate will have solid knowledge and practical experience in geotechnical, geomechanical, geochemical, and mineralogical evaluation of excavated materials. You will also be experienced in excavation material characterization techniques, such as Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA), Near infrared (NIR) hyper-spectral analysis, or X-ray fluorescence (XRF).

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse geological investigations results to characterise excavated materials for re-use potentials
  • Conduct laboratory verifications to evaluate geological characteristics of excavated materials
  • Identify reuse- and disposal- elimination pathways for each type of material
  • Develop an excavated materials management plan based on material quality and feasibility of reuse pathways
Requirements
  • Masters degree or equivalent relevant experience in Geology or Environmental Engineering
  • Experience in geotechnical, geomechanical, geochemical, and mineralogical evaluation of excavated materials
  • Solid knowledge and practical experience in excavation material characterization techniques
Working Conditions

This position involves working in underground installations and requires a valid driving licence. The successful candidate may be required to work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays when necessary.

The estimated salary for this position is approximately $80,000-$110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and location. CERN offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, pension plan, and paid time off.
