About the Role

CERN is seeking a highly skilled Electron Beam Welding Specialist to join its Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) Group. As a key member of the Forming & Welding section, you will be responsible for performing welding operations on state-of-the-art Electron Beam Welding equipment, optimizing welding parameters, and designing jigs and fixtures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform welding operations on Electron Beam Welding equipment for the fabrication of technical prototypes and components.
  • Optimize welding parameters to meet stringent specifications related to UHV and RF applications.
  • Design jigs and fixtures for welding activities in collaboration with the design office.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary projects and maintain close co-operation with other Engineering facilities CERN-wide.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations as required.
Requirements
  • Knowledge/experience in Electron Beam Welding or Laser Beam Welding technologies.
  • Knowledge/experience in mechanics and use of CAD/CAM software, including ISO G-code.
  • Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and ISO tolerancing.
  • Organised and self-motivated, with ability to carry out tasks autonomously.
  • Fluent in English, with ability to work in French an advantage.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of welding metallurgy.
  • Experience of high-precision mechanical engineering.
  • Understanding of main international standards related to beam welding.
  • Eagerness to learn about unconventional manufacturing processes and their application to particle physics.
Eligibility Criteria
  • National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical and/or Materials Engineering studies.
  • General secondary education diploma as highest educational qualification.
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract.
