Electronics Engineer: RF Interlocks Specialist

vor 1 Monat

Genf, Genf, Schweiz CERN Vollzeit
Job Description

Your responsibilities

In the future High-Luminosity LHC, crab cavities will be used to optimize particle beam collisions to deliver maximum luminosity to experiments. Protecting the LHC machine from beam-induced damage due to crab system failure requires close monitoring of crab cavities' RF phase and amplitude with respect to the particle beam and main LHC RF system. A rapid reaction time, within a few hundred microseconds, is required to activate the beam dump in case of anomaly. The new graduate will work with the RF and Machine Protection teams to specify, design, build, and qualify the electronics for this critical protection system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, simulation, and construction of analog-digital electronic circuits and systems
  • Design and simulation of control loops and feedback systems
  • Testing and measurement of digital and analog electronic circuits
  • Expertise in instrumentation and measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of programming techniques and languages: Python, C
  • Knowledge in design and simulation of FPGA-based electronics (e.g. VHDL)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Professional background in Electronic engineering (or a related field) with a Master's degree and 2-6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract

What We Offer

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax)
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse, and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child, and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract
  • 30 days of paid leave per year
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French
