About the Role
We are seeking an Applied Physicist to join our team at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. The successful candidate will work on magnetic modeling and beam-based simulations, focusing on the Proton Synchrotron and LEIR bending dipole.
Key Responsibilities
- Extend the existing model to account for eddy currents and pole face windings, as well as provide data for hysteresis modeling.
- Develop and benchmark a magnetic and optics model for the LEIR bending dipole using beam measurements.
- Depending on progress, improve models in the AD and PSB.
Requirements
- Knowledge of magnetic modeling, including dynamic effects, and experience with linear and non-linear optics measurements.
- Fluency in English.
- Nationality of a CERN member state.
- Professional background in Applied Physics or a related field, with a Master's degree and 2-6 years of post-graduation experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience.
- No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract.
What We Offer
- A monthly stipend of 6212-6828 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
- Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
- Depending on individual circumstances: installation grant, family, child, and infant allowances, and payment of travel expenses.
- 30 days of paid leave per year.
- On-the-job and formal training at CERN, as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
