Job Summary
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is seeking an exceptional Applied Physicist to join its Linear and Non-Linear Optics Section within the Accelerator and Beam Physics Group. As an experienced magnetic modeler, you will contribute to the development and refinement of magnetic models for the Proton Synchrotron (PS) main magnets. Your expertise in linear and non-linear optics measurements will be instrumental in extending the existing model to cover eddy currents and pole face windings, and in developing and benchmarking a magnetic and optics model for the LEIR bending dipole.
About the Role
- Develop and refine magnetic models for the PS main magnets, including dynamic effects and linear and non-linear optics measurements;
- Extend the existing model to cover eddy currents and pole face windings;
- Develop and benchmark a magnetic and optics model for the LEIR bending dipole;
- Depending on progress made, improve models in the AD and PSB.
Eligibility Criteria
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
- You have a professional background in Applied physics (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
