Trends & Thematic Investing represents a key capability within Fundamental Equities of Robeco with ambitious plans to expand the business over the coming years. It consists of around 30 investment professionals located in Rotterdam and Zurich. The team manages strategies around digitalization (e.g. Global Consumer Trends), distruptive technologies (e.g. Fintech), and sustainable/impact strategies (e.g. Alternative energies, water). The Head of Trends & Thematic Investing acts as well as the Head of Investments of Robeco Switzerland Ltd. He/she is reporting to the business manager of Robeco Switzerland Ltd. but also has functional line to the CIO Equities (member of the Robeco ExCo, located in the Netherlands). The role is based in Zurich with frequent travel, particularly to Rotterdam.
Purpose of the role
The Head of Robeco’s Trends & Thematic Equity teams is responsible for managing the team. He/she overlooks the investment processes, ensures consistency where possible, defines risk budgets and takes responsibility over respective investment performances. By structuring the team in the most reasonable manner, individual contribution as well as the integration and coordination between the team members should be maximized. The Head of the Trends & Thematic further develops the current product range, strengthens -in cooperation with the SI knowledge centre
- the integration of ESG factors in the investment process and represents the capability to the outside on conferences or in the media.
The position includes a local Executive Committee (ExCo) role for Robeco Switzerland. As part of the ExCo, you take responsibility for the local Head of Investments role, manage the investment department and are accountable towards the Board of Directors and regulator. In addition, the Head of Trends & Thematic will become a member of Robeco’s global Sustainability and Impact Strategy Committee (SISC). This committee aims to drive Robeco’s vision on sustainability and sustainable investing, establish and enhance the Sustainability Investing policy framework to be leading in the industry and create a platform for SI innovation.
Your main responsibilities- Develop and drive the holistic strategic vision for the Trends & Thematic equity teams- Ensure continued strength, capabilities, diversity and bench strength of the team(s)- Promote and role model integration and collaborative behaviour, within the responsible teams, but also in the broader organization- Implement the required elements of sustainability for the Trends & Thematic equity teams (SFDR) and further improved the sustainability profile of respective capabilities- Create content and be media spokesperson on market developments, economic trends, and Sustainable Investment. More specifically, become Robeco’s talking head on Trends & Thematic Investing. Developing the team in this area as well as doing this him/herself- Work with the sales team by providing excellent, high level content as a base for acquiring new assets and forging partnerships with global clients- Contribute to commercial activities and product development initiatives. This includes taking individual leadership of key clients as well as representing Robeco in conferences and other fora- Coach, mentor and develop key individual s in the are of Trends & Thematic Equities and the overall investments domain. **Requirements**:
- A proven track record in Portfolio Management, preferably in Sustainable and Thematic Investing- At least 15 years’ experience in the Asset Management industry, focuses on fundamental equity- Experience in managing a team of highly specialized and experienced portfolio managers- Familiar with Swiss and European laws and regulations, relevant for the asset management industry and sustainable investments- Successfully navigated in an international matrix organization- Excellent English language skills (ideally bilingual English/German)- Understands global markets dynamics and highlights investment challenges or problems, defines strategies to address them- Demonstrates a track record of developing and implementing investment strategies with curiosity to develop new opportunities- Shows strong affinity to emerging themes and trends within Sustainability Investing- Intrigued, encouraged and challenged by the opportunity to further implement Sustainability in the investment strategies- Connects with the market and gains insights to further develop strategies- Brings gravitas and leadership: Is credible in representing Robeco in the media- Culturally inquisitive, has a global perspective with both a practical and intellectual appreciation of the investments world
