Role Description

The Fashion / Product Design Assistant supports designers throughout the creative and production process, from concept development to final product delivery. This role involves conducting trend research, preparing design materials, coordinating with manufacturers, and assisting with sample management. The position requires creativity, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills to help turn design concepts into high-quality, market-ready products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in researching fashion trends, materials, colors, and silhouettes for seasonal collections.
  • Support the design team in creating sketches, mood boards, and presentation materials.
  • Prepare technical drawings, product specifications, and design sheets for internal review and production.
  • Coordinate with fabric suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers to source materials and monitor sample production.
  • Organize and maintain design archives, fabric swatches, and sample libraries.
  • Participate in fittings and assist in documenting design adjustments or modifications.
  • Track project timelines, sample delivery schedules, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assist in preparing lookbooks, line sheets, and presentation materials for buyers or internal meetings.
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams (production, merchandising, marketing) to ensure design consistency and accuracy.
  • Support quality control checks on prototypes and final samples to maintain brand standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Product Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of experience in fashion or product design; internships or assistant roles are highly valued.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, and production processes.
  • Strong aesthetic sense with attention to detail and color coordination.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eagerness to learn new design tools, materials, and production methods.
  • English proficiency required; Japanese language skills are a plus for Japan-based roles.
  • Passionate about fashion, creativity, and sustainability in design.
