Legal Counsel

**Who are we?**

**Description**
As our **Legal Counsel **you will be go-to-person for any legal & compliance topics, initiatives & questions across Smallpdf. As such you will be working closely with various teams as well as our Management on drafting, reviewing & negotiating contracts, providing legal advice & counsel on data protection topics (e.g. GDPR & CCPA), independently lead relevant initatives and be responsible for our compliance (e.g. ISO27001) in collaboration with technical counterparts.
**_Please note that for this role you will have to be located in Zürich as you will have to be onsite on a regular basis (we support relocation)._**

**Responsibilities & Duties**
- Provide advice & counsel on any legal & compliance questions and counsel for both internal and external stakeholders, esp. around data privacy (e.g. GDPR, CCPA etc.)
- Be responsible for crafting, interpreting and negotiating contracts & agreements (e.g. DPAs, customer / vendor, emploment, NDAs, ESOP, etc.) and a variety of other agreements related to interactions with our customers, strategic partners, suppliers, employees and other stakeholders
- Be responsible for compliance with relevant laws & regulations (esp. GDPR, Swiss law)
- Independently lead & drive legal & compliance projects in cross-disciplinary teams
- Lead the annual certification & audits for ISO27001 in collaboration with your technical counterparts, making recommendations to Management as and where needed to improve legal & compliance overall
- Improve internal policies & processes on legal & compliance and ISO27001
- Deliver advice on how to manage legal & compliance risk and report the risks to our management
- Perform other tasks as necessary to ensure that legal & compliance meets its commitments to stakeholders

**Requirements**:

- Previous experience of 4-5 years in a general counsel or senior legal & compliance role
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of data protection (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, etc.), contract and corporate law
- Masters or equivalent / higher degree in law and certified/qualified lawyer / bar license
- Great interpersonal skills and clear & concise verbal & written communication style
- Strong ownership, curiosity & drive
- Pragmatism
- Sense of pride in personal performance and its impact on the company’s success
- Self-starter with entrepreneurial mindset
- Ability to work independently, multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
- Team player with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Based in Zurich or willing to relocate to Zurich (this is an on-site role)
- Excellent command of English and German (spoken and written)

Experience working for a technology / software / SaaS company is a plus, but not mandatory
