About the team you are joining

You will report to the Head of Industry Analysis and will oversee work covering both airline financial performance and sustainable finance in support of airline members and all parts of IATA. As a seasoned professional in the field, you are an expert in quantitative analysis of airline financial performance modeling, with knowledge of various types of debt instruments, debt structures and cash flow models. You are also experienced in sustainability matters including climate-related disclosure, reporting and metrics. Having a solid understanding of financial strategies and capital instruments, as they relate to industry decarbonization, sustainable growth and profitability, will be key for this role.
You will be responsible for working with a cross-functional team to produce key forecasts of airlines’ financial performance, in coordination with the division’s passenger and cargo traffic forecast development efforts. The financial forecasts will be used to assess the performance of the industry, assess risks, and identify areas needing further financial support. You will also be called upon to produce and deliver presentations in support of the Chief Economist and IATA’s stakeholders.

What your day would be like
- Oversee research and analyses on all aspects of financial performance, business models, cost and revenue structures, and the supply chains, covering air transportation, the aviation value chain, and the global transportation sector.
- Share your findings in publications, and you will maintain and enhance the profile of the department for its analysis of airline financial performance by presenting at major internal and external aviation conferences.
- Develop quarterly financial performance, semi-annual forecasts of airline industry financial performance, and ad hoc research on performance issues.
- Direct team’s research and output on airline financial performance and sustainable finance issues, including climate-related disclosures and relevant Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) matters.
- Respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the department’s commercial objectives: you will assist with the Strategic Partners Economic Advisory workshop, work on consulting projects, and contribute to training programs.
- All members of the team have a shared responsibility for the success of us all individually and as a team. As an Assistant Director you will provide sympathetic coaching to team members in your domain.

We would love to hear from you if
- A graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related fields. PhD an advantage.
- Proven experience in managing research projects and delivering results to the highest standards.
- Experience in analysis and forecasting of airline financial performance, or from other related industries.
- Experience from the banking sector as equity/credit analyst would be a strong advantage.
- Strong personnel management and inter-personal skills.
