**Member of Central Banking Studies Secretariat / Economist****:
The Bank for International Settlements is hiring for a Member of Central Banking Studies Secretariat / Economist, in Basel, Switzerland.

**Purpose of the job**:
As a part of the Central Banking Studies unit, you will support the governor-level Central Bank Governance Group (CBGG), the Central Bank Governance Network, and undertake and disseminate analysis on central bank governance and institutional design.

The mission of the CBS unit is to foster the good governance of central banks. CBS team members interact with governors and senior central bankers on issues at the forefront of central bank governance and institutional design. Members of the small team gain exposure to a wide range of topics and initiatives. The CBGG is a venue for the exchange of views among governors on issues related to the design and operation of central banks. Recent CBGG topics have included central bank profitability, central bank mandates and climate risk, and accountability mechanisms in the conduct of monetary policy. Team members support central banks through policy analysis, preparing discussion notes and notes for publication, organising meetings of senior officials, and acting as a resource to the central bank community for information on central bank governance and institutional design.

**Principal accountabilities**:

- Contribute to the preparation of meetings for the governor
- level Central Bank Governance Group (CBGG). Help identify and frame potential discussion topics and organize CBGG meetings
- Carry out analysis on current issues of central banking in preparation for CBGG notes and in collaboration with BIS colleagues. Contribute to broader dissemination and publication of this analysis when appropriate. Using economic, political and organizational knowledge and practice, combined with an understanding of country-specific institutional arrangements, distil key points in concise notes and other publications.
- Work with central bankers from around the world to support the Central Bank governance information hub and Central Bank Governance Network (CBGN). Ensure that central bank information is collected accurately and in a manner that preserves confidentiality as needed, and that surveys are conducted efficiently. Support infrastructure development and related efforts to ensure that access to information and analysis is presented in a user-friendly way and available to the central bank community. Assist in stakeholder outreach with member and non-member central banks.

**Qualifications, skills and experience**:

- Proven experience with a central bank, international financial institution or similar institution engaged in policy-related work.
- Practical experience in policy analysis, preferably at a central bank, at a senior level.
- Experience in fostering discussions among central banks, regulatory and other authorities.
- Advanced degree (MA or PhD) in economics, policy or finance
- Analytical skills and ability to synthesise and analyse information from a wide variety of sources.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills in English
- Very good planning and organizational skills
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment.
