Corporate Legal Council

We are looking for the right people to join our well-funded, growing open source startup and to help us to continue to build exciting technology that makes our users happy. Right now, we are looking for a corporate Legal Council to join our team in Zurich, Konstanz, or Berlin*.
Who you are

You are an experienced, proactive, and forward thinking legal professional with background and broad knowledge of the laws relevant in the daily business of a software company (contract law, intellectual property and know-how protection, employment law, international data privacy law, corporate law, etc. - the more the merrier). You have at least 3 years’ experience in drafting and negotiating contracts across a wide spectrum, and you are fluent in English. Ideally you bring experience of working in a corporate setup and have already implemented new systems and processes to handle the growing demand for internal legal services. As a plus you’re already a master of this GDPR thing As an excellent communicator, you understand the requirements of colleagues who don’t have a legal background (even if expressed by a software developer nerd) and are willing and able to explain complex legal matters in vernacular language.
What's the job
You will be the first person on the ground in KNIME’s legal department. You will find a raw and not fully developed setup giving you the chance to implement many of your brilliant ideas to form an efficient legal team in the future of the growing company. Therefore, it is imperative that you are proactive and independent. You are the go-to person for any kind of internal legal question - from compliance or IP protection issues, through requests for NDAs and collaboration agreements as well as complex licensing agreements to corporate housekeeping.
After an onboarding phase you are going to get hands-on by drafting and reviewing legal documents and make decisions based on your education and experience - or take a well-founded suggestion to upper management.
If customers won’t accept our standard agreements, you will red-line their drafts and discuss solutions with them directly in accordance with our culture (in English or German). Team members will come to you with their requests and you will work with them to understand their needs. Thus, it is critical that you are a patient, open, and a clear communicator. Additionally, you will be responsible for the internal and external GDPR compliance and will maintain and improve our data protection setup and procedures.
