Job Opportunity

The ETH Quantum Material Dynamics group is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to investigate the ultrafast dynamics of quantum materials under pressure.

About the Project

The aim of this research project is to explore the dynamical response of quantum materials when brought out of equilibrium following excitation by an ultrashort pulse of light. This study will provide valuable insights into the properties of quantum materials and inform theory developments that seek to model ultrafast material responses.

Research Group

The PhD position will be based in Prof. Elsa Abreu's Quantum Material Dynamics group at ETH Zürich, in the Institute for Quantum Electronics. The group is dedicated to advancing our understanding of quantum materials and their applications.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in physics or material sciences
  • Background in condensed matter physics
  • Experience with time-resolved experiments or high-pressure measurements (ideal)
  • Proficiency in oral and written English
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and self-motivation
