Job Title: Manufacturing Development Manager
About the Role:
Lumentum is seeking an experienced professional to lead the development of state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and production lines. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of Mechanical and Electrical engineers to design, procure, and validate production tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
- Design, procure, and validate stations for mechanical assembly, alignment, and test.
- Develop and implement robotic cells, ensuring safety, equipment, and tooling are properly integrated.
- Define facility and utility requirements for pilot lines and manufacturing sites abroad.
- Verify pilot lines through design verification, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Incorporate EHS feedback for station safety and ergonomics.
- Own and maintain documentation, including Station BoM and technical drawings.
- Coordinate maintenance services and adhere to manufacturer's instructions.
- Collaborate with Process Engineering and Test&Automation teams to ensure project needs are met.
- Participate in SDR and 3P events to concurrently define product, processes, and stations.
- Propose continuous improvements based on data analyst and production engineer inputs.
- Define assembly processes and support process engineering in transferring new designs to volume production.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in an industrial development environment, with 3 years of team management experience.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electromechanical systems, CAD software, and engineering tools.
- Experience with electronic schematics, PCBA design, automation, and robot cell deployment.
- Hands-on approach, ability to work autonomously, and excellent analytical skills.
- Fluent in English, with German proficiency a plus.
- Excellent communication and team player skills.
- Project coordination and planning abilities.
- High level of integrity, responsiveness, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with domestic and off-shore contract manufacturers, OEMs, and design partners.
- Travel: availability to travel internationally up to 15-20% to evaluate vendors and transfer manufacturing lines to production sites abroad.
- Work Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in Switzerland on a full-time basis. Preferably Swiss or EU/EFTA citizens.
