Role Overview

UN Women is committed to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide. As a Global Humanitarian Advocacy Specialist, you will play a crucial role in leading the development and implementation of communication and outreach/advocacy strategies for the UN Women Geneva office. This position requires a highly skilled professional with expertise in media relations, social media, and crisis communications.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of communication and advocacy strategies, focusing on humanitarian crises and partnerships with local actors, including local women-led organizations.
    • Conduct communication needs assessments for thematic programme areas and design, develop, and implement effective communication and outreach/advocacy strategies, ensuring a gender perspective.
    • Integrate communication, advocacy, and outreach strategies into proposals for projects and other initiatives, monitoring and analyzing print and social media to prepare reports.
    • Provide advice and guidance to programme managers and team leads on specific communication tools and strategies, launching campaigns and special events, as well as coordinating web-presence and social media accounts in line with corporate policies.
    • Develop and produce advocacy instruments and materials, including briefing materials, press releases, and articles, coordinating dissemination through effective channels, and identifying and launching information opportunities, activities, approaches, and platforms, as well as partners.
    • Collaborate with RO/MCO and CO colleagues to support outreach campaigns, resource mobilization, and donor relations initiatives, focusing on sudden onset emergencies and protracted displacement/humanitarian crises.
    • Manage media relations for the UN Women Office, building relationships with the press, maintaining a database of relevant press, responding to inquiries, preparing related correspondence, identifying topics, background information, news-related developments, and coverage of interest, organizing roundtable discussions, press conferences, and briefing sessions, facilitating interviews with senior managers, connecting media with subject experts, and finalizing talking points.
    • Oversee the UN Women Geneva office online presence, maintaining websites and intranet pages, developing design and content, coordinating web-presence in line with corporate web policy, overseeing and managing social media accounts according to corporate social media policy.
    • Facilitate knowledge building and sharing, synthesizing best practices and lessons learned from UN Women Geneva office directly linked to programme goals and activities, designing and facilitating training on emergency communications, covering joint initiatives and dialogue with RO and CO communications specialists in emergencies and humanitarian crisis contexts, providing training and workshops on communication and advocacy as appropriate.
    • Perform other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organisation.

Competencies Required

The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of public relations, journalism, or relevant fields, experience in crisis communications, humanitarian settings, and media relations, as well as proficiency in English, with fluency in another official UN language desirable.
