Introduction

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is seeking a skilled Electronics Technician to join its Experimental Physics Department. As a key member of the Electronics Pool team, you will play a crucial role in providing a high-quality rental service of electronic instrumentation equipment for CERN's High Energy Physics experiments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test and qualify electronic equipment, identifying faults and implementing firmware and hardware fixes as needed.
  • Design, develop, and maintain hardware and software for test benches, laboratory instruments, and optoelectronics.
  • Participate in the identification, evaluation, and qualification of new equipment types.
  • Provide direct technical support to service users, including on-site investigations and ensuring links with manufacturers for fault follow-up.
  • Write detailed test procedure documentation and test reports.
  • Contribute to the testing, integration, and improvement of the enterprise asset management tool used in the Electronics Pool service.
  • Participate in daily operations, including maintenance, service reception, and stock-related logistics.

Requirements

  • Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in electronics or a related field.
  • Extensive experience and interest in electronics, ideally in testing, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Proven experience in a user support service or customer-oriented service.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing Python-based test software.
  • Initial experience with high and low voltage DC power supplies and ERP/EAM tools and databases.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge and application of instrumentation and measurement techniques.
  • Installation, operation, and maintenance of industrial data-acquisition, monitoring, and control systems.
  • Selection and application of modular high-voltage power supplies and low-voltage power supplies.
  • Knowledge of programming techniques and languages, including Labview and Python.
  • Configuration and use of information management systems, including ERP/EAM suites and databases.

Language Skills

Spoken and written English: ability to understand and speak the language in routine situations (level B2 minimum). Ability to understand and speak French a plus, or willingness to learn and improve in this language.
