Key Responsibilities

As a Strategic Communications Manager and Officer, you will be responsible for defining, reviewing, and implementing the communications strategy for the mission. This includes advising on positioning and identifying opportunities to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the mission's objectives.
  • Handle local and international media requests, and proactively contact local media to promote MSF's work.
  • Maintain close contact with key local media and facilitate media and photographic visits to project sites.
  • Monitor and report on local media, flagging significant articles, trends, and news that impact MSF's work.
  • Produce strategic reports on the local media landscape, including key media outlets, audience demographics, and political affiliations.
  • Act as a spokesperson during emergencies to alleviate high media pressure.
  • Manage and monitor MSF's social media network accounts in country, producing and disseminating content, and moderating online interactions.
  • Produce and/or coordinate the production of communication tools and products, including PRs, leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots, articles, photos, and videos.
  • Train relevant project team members on how to communicate externally, and identify human resources needs for communications.
  • Work closely with communications and operational colleagues to achieve the mission's objectives.

Requirements:

  • Degree in journalism, communications, humanitarian affairs, political science, or a related field.
  • At least four years' experience in international communications, journalism, or public relations.
  • At least one year's experience working in developing countries or unstable contexts.
  • Ability to source, identify, and analyze relevant operational information, explaining its context and translating it for use in communications materials.
  • Social media skills, including community management and network identification.
  • Knowledge of audio-visual skills, including creation and production of tools.
  • IT skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Native English speaker or track record of English editing; fluency in any other language is a considerable asset.
  • Available for a minimum of six months.
  • Commitment to MSF's work and values.

  • Experience in people management.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a diplomatic approach.
  • Will to work in all kinds of contexts worldwide, including unstable areas.
  • Adaptable and able to work in a multicultural team.
