Strategic Communications Specialist

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to promote MSF's mission and values.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with local and international media outlets, ensuring timely and effective communication of MSF's activities and achievements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate media visits to project sites, ensuring a positive and informative experience for journalists and photographers.
  • Monitor and analyze local media trends, identifying opportunities to promote MSF's work and values.
  • Produce high-quality reports and analysis on the local media landscape, providing strategic insights for MSF's communications efforts.
  • Act as a spokesperson during emergencies, providing timely and effective communication to alleviate high media pressure.
  • Manage and moderate MSF's social media network accounts, ensuring a consistent and engaging brand voice.
  • Develop and produce communication tools and products, including press releases, leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots, articles, photos, and videos.
  • Train and develop project teams on effective external communication, ensuring a consistent and professional brand image.
  • Identify and address human resources needs for communications, hiring and managing direct reports as needed.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in journalism, communications, humanitarian affairs, political science, or a related field.
  • At least four years of international work experience in communications, journalism, or public relations.
  • At least one year of experience working in developing countries or unstable contexts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and analyze key operational information.
  • Excellent social media skills, including community management and network identification.
  • Knowledge of audio-visual skills, including creation and production of communication tools.
  • Proficiency in IT skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Native English speaker or track record of English editing; fluency in any other language is a considerable asset.
  • Available for a minimum of six months.
  • Commitment to MSF's work and values.
  • Strong team player with excellent negotiation and diplomatic skills.
  • Ability to work in all kinds of contexts worldwide, including unstable areas.
  • Adaptable and able to work in a multicultural team.
  • Flexible and able to manage high levels of stress.
  • Self-driven with a solution-oriented approach.
