About CERN

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world's leading laboratories for particle physics research. Our organization is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the universe and driving scientific innovation.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Gas Systems Engineer to join our team in Geneva, Switzerland. As a key member of our EP-DT-FS section, you will be responsible for maintaining, operating, and developing gas systems for our LHC experiments.

Your primary focus will be on optimizing greenhouse gas usage through four strategic approaches: gas recirculation, gas recuperation, new environmentally friendly gases, and gas abatement.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Operate CF4 and R134a recuperation plants at CMS
  • Conduct R&D for a new GHGs recuperation plant
  • Perform chemical analysis to ensure accurate gas mixture composition delivery to particle detectors

You will also contribute to activities related to gas distribution system operation and gas recuperation plant maintenance, including monitoring, reporting, commissioning of upgrades, and work on-site.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemistry or engineering
  • Strong analytical chemistry background
  • Experience with industrial plant operation
  • Fluent English language skills (knowledge of French is an asset)

We are looking for a candidate with a strong foundation in analytical chemistry and experience in industrial plant operation. Your ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities will be essential.

What We Offer

A competitive salary ranging from 6,212 to 6,828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax), depending on your qualifications and experience.

  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse, and children) and membership of the CERN Pension Fund
  • Installation grant; family, child, and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract
  • 30 days of paid leave per year
  • On-the-job training and formal education opportunities at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French
