Job Overview

The Berner Fachhochschule BFH is seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD candidate to join our team in the field of Digital Finance. As a PhD candidate, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting research and innovation projects focused on data science, AI, and ML applications in finance, together with industry and academic experts from Switzerland and abroad.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development in the field of Digital Finance, with a focus on data science, AI, and ML applications.
  • Collaborate with industry and academic experts to identify and develop innovative solutions for real-world problems in finance.
  • Participate in the development of a specialized training program on Digital Finance, created at the European level from a consortium of leading industry and academic experts.
  • Work on industry-relevant topics on Machine Learning in Finance, with topics subject to change.
  • Spent at least 18 months in industry, with expected placements at the European Central Bank and the Bank for International Settlements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Information Technology, Computational Science, or related fields.
  • Strong passion and outstanding skills in data science and experience working with programming languages and statistical software such as Python, R, C++.
  • Knowledge on quantitative modelling of financial markets, econometric techniques, machine learning, or quantitative empirical research methods.
  • The ability to work on real-world problems in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment.
  • Good communication skills and an excellent command of English.
