Job Overview

The Berner Fachhochschule BFH is seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD candidate to join our team in the field of Digital Finance. As a PhD candidate, you will be part of a prestigious European-wide doctorate in Digital Finance, providing a unique opportunity to work with leading institutions such as the European Central Bank.

Research Focus

Your research will focus on data science, AI, and ML applications in finance, working closely with industry and academic experts from Switzerland and abroad. You will have access to a specialized training program on Digital Finance created at the European level, and you will spend at least 18 months in industry, with expected placements at the European Central Bank and the Bank for International Settlements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on data science, AI, and ML applications in finance
  • Collaborate with industry and academic experts to develop innovative solutions
  • Participate in the development of a specialized training program on Digital Finance
  • Contribute to the creation of a European-wide doctorate in Digital Finance

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Information Technology, Computational Science, or related fields
  • Strong passion and outstanding skills in data science and experience working with programming languages and statistical software such as Python, R, C++
  • Knowledge on quantitative modelling of financial markets, econometric techniques, machine learning, or quantitative empirical research methods
  • Ability to work on real-world problems in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment
  • Good communication skills and an excellent command of English
