Research Opportunity at Universität Bern
The Institute of Geography at Universität Bern invites applications for a PhD position in the field of climate extremes and health. This research project is part of a Horizon Europe project on climate change adaptation in Europe.
Project Overview
The PhD project aims to develop and analyze health-relevant heat indicators at high spatial resolution for Europe, both for the past, present, and future. These indicators will be combined with other geospatial information and hazards, such as air pollution, to address compound risks. The analysis will also investigate the impact of climatic drivers in combination with a large ensemble of climate model simulations.
Research Focus
The project will focus on four case study sites (Naples, Lyon, Bern, Oslo) and examine the urban heat island effect. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a large dataset and develop novel methods for analyzing heat-related health impacts.
Requirements
The ideal candidate holds an MSc degree in climate science, environmental science, applied mathematics, statistics, or a related field. We encourage applications from women and under-represented minorities. The position is contingent upon eligibility for and successful obtaining the correct visa status.
