As a premier supplier to our client, a well established Swiss private bank based in Zurich, Swisslinx is currently looking for an experienced Product Owner with solid technical knowledge, very good communication skills and a proactive mindset.
The long-term contract is supposed to start ASAP. The initial contract duration will be until the end of this year, with high likelihood of extension(s) and possibility of internalization at a later point.
Background:
Our client is transforming itself, and one part of that transformation includes re-defining their current software development platforms. One of the key components, the Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CDP), needs a visionary that can lead the team building it towards their final goal: deliver new state-of-art software multiple times every day to customers every day. Are you this person?
The Product:
Together with partners, our client built an Azure Cloud solution that enables them to use modern techniques and tools while developing software. Now they need to take one step further and evolve this platform to become a fully-fledged CDP. You will be building that product together with a small and highly skilled cross-functional team.
The current platform is built on top of a suite of mixed open-source products and paid solutions. While this has been very successful, our client is now working hard to take this platform to the next level by integrating state-of-art products and technologies to its core. Together with peers from the Software Engineering Centre of Excellence (CoE) and the IT Transformation team, you will build the vision that will shape the future of software engineering. Our client is serious about living a DevOps culture, so topics such as test automation, observability and performance engineering are integral parts of the product.
The Team:
You will be joining a cross-functional team made-up of engineers with a wide-range of skills, and an architect and a scrum master will support you. The goal is to create a well-oiled team where there are no single points of knowledge and that everyone can support everyone to some degree. This might take a while to achieve, but our client believes it is paramount for having a successful and stable team in the long term. You are expected to have enough technical skills to understand the team’s technical challenges and translate those to the known technical stakeholders at the right level.
The day-to-day work that matters:
Nobody likes boring days As a PO of the CDP platform, your days will be full of activities with your team and peers from other departments. From the classic daily meetings, to preparing the backlog for the iteration sessions, or have calls with stakeholders from both engineering and business, to working closely with your team’s architect to prepare material to communicate what the team will be doing next to achieve the vision you helped to set, your day has all of it.
Your profile:
- You are delivery driven with a can-do attitude, you are rather focusing on how to get past a hard problem instead of finding reasons why something would not work.
- Proven experience in working on a DevOps environment with a good track of delivering on complex projects.
- Understanding of modern techniques for software development and release management.
- Proven experience with adoption of modern observability patterns.
- Great communicator, your team and stakeholders need to understand the vision, you also should be comfortable to speak on public events, sometimes we have calls that more than fifty people attend to get updates on our progress.
- We will not expect you to code, but we do expect you to have enough technical knowledge and experience that you can truly understand what your team is working on and possible impediments.
- Empathic, open-minded, out-of-the-box thinking and willing to negotiate.
- Experience working with and managing external partners/customers.
- Ability to adapt messages to the technical level of the audience, and present technical materials to groups of any size and background
Your challenge
- Co-design and own the vision for the software engineering DevOps platform.
- Take part in the IT Transformation program, representing the CoE and delivering our vision. This includes preparing for iteration planning, iteration reviews, and stakeholders management across the entire organization.
- Lead a cross-functional team (but no line-management duties), making sure its members understand the vision and are motivated to deliver on challenging tasks.
- Be the bridge between our software engineers and your team, gather their requirements, understand their motivations, and translate that into well-scoped actionable items in your team’s backlog.
- Work closely to stakeholders of other technical areas, such as Architecture, Release Management and Support.
Please note, the role is based 100% in Switzerland. The team is split between WFH (2 days / week) and office (3 days / week).
