This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative, commercial stage biotech company focused on developing life transforming therapies for patients with rare and ultra-rare disorders. Ultragenyx is looking for an experienced medical leader with the passion and creativity to develop great medicines for patients.

The Vice President, Medical Affairs for the European Region will be responsible for development and oversight of the company’s post-approval activities, building robust Key Opinion Leader partnerships, building physician, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) and Patient Diagnosis Liaison (PDL) teams. This individual will provide strategic direction and medical/scientific leadership, and is responsible for developing, implementing, guiding and communicating the European Medical Affairs strategy and activities for Ultragenyx. Reflecting the critical nature of the role as part of both global Medical Affairs and the Europe Regional organization, this role will have dual reporting to the SVP, Head of Europe Commercial Operations and the SVP, Global Medical Affairs.

**What you will be doing**:

- Lead and be accountable for the medical affairs strategy for all programs in Europe and assure high quality execution of all medical affairs tactics
- Develop and implement the strategic direction, ensuring it is aligned with the global and regional brand/Franchise plans
- Build and lead medical teams who have responsibility to develop and execute medical affairs plans for their respective therapy areas and/or countries
- Strategic leadership of country-based Medical Teams (Medical Directors/Managers and MSLs) responsible for disseminating and collecting medical information and insights regarding company products to physicians and other healthcare professionals
- Partner with the European Commercial Leadership Team to provide Medical expertise to the Commercial organization as needed to assist in the development and execution of compliant commercial activities
- Partner with the Europe Commercial Field Force team in executing coordinated field teams with specific responsibility for MSLs, PDLs
- Continue to build, develop and lead field Patient Diagnosis Liaison (PDL) team responsible for identifying patients in territories
- Provide support for patient advocacy activities working closely with the commercial (country) organization
- Ensure infrastructure and processes for grant proposals, medical information, Training, Investigator Sponsored Trials, and Early Access support are optimized for the European region
- Develop clear and effective GCP practices for the group
- Utilizes medical/scientific, technical, and managerial experience to support research programs, clinical development programs and licensed product maintenance, including developing the strategy for advisory Boards and KOL meetings
- Keeps abreast of current medical/scientific progress.
- Be an active, engaged partner at the Global Medical Affairs Leadership Team
- Accountable for the design and oversight of corporate-sponsored EU medical affairs trials
- Have a servant leadership approach, sharing power, putting the needs of others first and helping people develop and perform as highly as possible.
