**Contexte**:

Our department of Medicine is one of the pillars of CHUV. It reunites the skills of 13 medical specialties and nearly 1,500 employees. Moreover, it has solid expertise in taking care of patients suffering from multiple and complex conditions.

Its mission is to treat patients with the best medical, nursing, medico-technical and administrative skills during their stay. We put a strong emphasis on training and research. Innovation and quality of treatments are at the core of what we do.

The research group (head: Prof. Dr. Patrizia D’AMELIO) investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in aging and senescence with particular regards to the role of immune system and of mitochondria function in aging of the bone, muscle and brain.

**Mission**:

- The research going on in the lab is translational going from the bed to the bench side
- The PhD’s project aims to reveal new insights in the role of environment and of gut microbiota into influencing immune cell activation in aging and bone diseases. Particularly, it will focus on investigating and modulating the molecular mechanisms regulating the interaction between gut microbiota, T cells and bone metabolism. The experiments will be carried of ex-vivo and in-vitro
- The aim of the project is to better understand the molecular mechanisms linking gut microbiota, inflammation and the control of bone turnover. The work will include a variety of biomedical and immunological research methods (e.g. flow cytometry, cell biology, and molecular biology). The opportunity to shape the project with own ideas and to start developing an independent scientific profile will be given and encouraged.

**Profil**:

- PhD in the field of biology or MD
- Basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology is required
- Previous basic experience of the following techniques multicolour flow cytometry, Western blot, Real-time PCR, ELISA, Cellular Culture are required
- Hands-on experience with primary bone cells is preferable
- Experience in Elispot and imunofluorescence is preferable
- High degree of motivation, enthusiasm in research, very good organizational skills
- Excellent English language skills
- Good French language skills are preferable.
