The internship is located in the Director's office of the Sustainable Transport Division, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe based in Geneva.

The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC).

Responsibilities:

The intern is expected to contribute to the work of the Sustainable Transport Division as follows:
The 86th plenary session of the ITC will take place in Geneva on 20-23 February 2024.

Under the supervision of the Secretary of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC), the intern will support the organization and follow-up to the 86th plenary session, including its Ministerial components on inland transport and climate change, and is expected to:

  • Support the preparation for, conduct of and followup to the plenary session as a member of the secretariat team
  • Assist in the invitation of speakers, incl. highlevel speakers from governments, other international organizations and the private sector
  • Carry out desk research and analysis in support of the organization of the plenary session, including drafting elements of official and unofficial documents.
  • Support the preparation of official and informal communication
  • Assist with the organization of communication promoting a large intergovernmental event with highlevel participation.
  • Assist in organizing sideevents with participation of highlevel representatives of Member States and Senior UN officials, etc.
  • Assist in the management of the ITC/Sustainable Transport Division web and social media presence:
  • Draft text and visual contents to be used for the website and social media profiles
  • Plan and draft the stories to be featured as highlights on the mandate and work of ITC
  • Prepare press releases and contents to be used on social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram) and liaise with partners (UN and external) for publication.
  • Take initiative for the design and creation of promotional and marketing materials (e.g., using Adobe InDesign).
  • Update and coordinate the editorial planning of publications for the web and social media.
  • Provide ad hoc assistance to other activities related to the preparation and followup of the plenary session of the ITC and its sideevents
  • Provide support to other tasks in the Director's office and the Sustainable Transport Division

Education

To qualify for the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
For this internship, studies in communication or social media management, graphic design, economics, business/public administration, political or international affairs or similar are required;

Work experience in writing for the web and social media, web and social media content and/or graphic design, illustration, or equivalent is desirable.

Knowledge of sustainable transport and/or sustainable development will be considered an asset.

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Work experience in writing for the web and social media, web and social media content and/or graphic design, illustration, or equivalent is desirable.

Knowledge of sustainable transport and/or sustainable development is desirable.
