About the role

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with deep architectural skills to lead and guide our cross-functional engineering team with technical direction across our back-end and frontend engineers working on web, and app platforms. You will act as both a manager and an architect, collaborating closely with other leads, engineers, product, and DevOps teams to design, build, and scale high-quality, maintainable systems. The role is based in Lausanne, reporting to the CTO.

Key Responsibilities

Your mission will be to support and empower our backend engineers working primarily with PHP (Symfony), while coordinating architectural coherence and best practices with our Frontend Lead, Quality Lead and engineers to ensure robust, scalable, and modern applications.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Own and evolve the architectural vision for backend services while aligning with frontend architecture (React Native, web apps) to ensure consistent, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, Quality assurance and Team leads to translate requirements into technical strategies across the stack.
  
• Advocate and enforce engineering best practices across teams in collaboration with the leads, including code quality, testing, security, and performance.
  

Engineering Management

• Manage, mentor, and grow engineers while providing architectural guidance and technical direction.
  
• Conduct regular 1:1s, set growth plans, and facilitate career development.
  
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  

Delivery & Operations

• Ensure backend services are robust, secure, and scalable by supporting your team in design and implementation decisions.
  
• Support the adoption of modern DevOps practices, including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools like Sentry.
  
• Coordinate cross-functional initiatives to drive end-to-end delivery of new features or architectural changes.
  

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support

• Act as a bridge between the different teams, ensuring alignment on API design, data models, and system interactions.
  
• Participate in roadmap planning and prioritization with product stakeholders.
  
• ​Contribute to incident management, root cause analysis, and production support coordination.
  

Profil

Who we are looking for

Technical Skills:

• 5 years of engineering experience, including deep expertise in backend systems (PHP Symfony, and/or similar languages/frameworks).
  
• Solid knowledge of REST API architecture and modern frontend-backend integration patterns.
  
• Working familiarity with modern frontend stacks (React, React Native). You don't have to code React every day, but you should understand their architecture and needs.
  
• Experience with scalable systems in a containerized, cloud-native environment (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD).
  
• Solid database skills with SQL databases (MySQL or similar).
  
• Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Sentry, Datadog…) and modern monitoring practices.
  

Management & Leadership Skills:

• Experience managing and mentoring engineers, ideally across multiple disciplines (backend, frontend).
  
• Strong technical decision-making skills and an ability to align diverse engineering teams around a shared vision.
  
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with fluency in English.
  
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional environments.
  
• Strong advocate for Agile principles and iterative development.
