About the Role
Ventia's Defence & Social Infrastructure team require a Commercial Specialist in support of various Defence contracts across Australia.

This role is accountable for supporting and optimising the commercial performance of Defence contracts by ensuring effective contract compliance, client engagement, risk mitigation, and value delivery.

This is a Permanent Full Time position and can be based from any of our offices across Australia, though preference for location would be Victoria, Western Australia, Northern Territory, or Queensland to align with our Defence operations.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support development of operational contract management documents and deliver to project teams
  • Interpret and apply contract terms and conditions to ensure compliance
  • Management and control of contract registers, portals, correspondence and all elements relevant to stakeholder engagements
  • Serve as a commercial contact for internal and external clients across allocated contracts
  • Support contract variations, extensions, and renewals
  • Monitor contract performance against KPIs and SLAs
  • Work closely with downstream procurement / subcontracts teams to establish subcontracts, manage subcontract obligations and report on issues
  • Provide support on commercial and contract risk management
  • Collaborate with operational, legal, finance, and procurement teams

About You
To be successful in your application, you will have a qualification in Business, Commerce, Law or related field with experience ideally in Defence or Government Services.

You will also possess:

  • Understanding of contract law, procurement processes, and financial principles
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and contracts
  • Experience working in a matrixed or cross-functional environment
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality assurance control
  • Ability to seek and be involved in new business opportunities and effectively interface with the Client
  • High level of motivation and commitment to improve work practices, systems and procedures
  • Take ownership in ensuring contractual and commercial outcomes, working individually and as a member of the broader commercial team

Due to contractual requirements, you will be an Australian Citizen and need complete and maintain a National Police check and Baseline Security Clearance.
