The IAS is also the steward of the world’s most prestigious HIV conferences: the International AIDS Conference, the IAS Conference on HIV Science, and the HIV Research for Prevention Conference.
**Details of Employment**:
The Technical Lead, Paediatric HIV will be based in Geneva, Switzerland and report to the Senior Manager, Biomedical HIV Science. The position is open-ended and full-time to start as soon as possible.
**Purpose of the Position**:
The Technical lead, Paediatric HIV will provide technical leadership for the IAS’s Collaborative Initiative for Paediatric HIV Education and Research (CIPHER), which works to accelerate an evidence-informed, human rights-based and integrated HIV response for infants, children, adolescents and young people living with and affected by HIV. To do so the incumbent will:
- closely monitor developments in paediatric HIV science and service delivery and regularly engage with other actors in the field to identify priority knowledge and implementation gaps and appropriate means for the IAS to address these.
- work closely with the IAS Capacity Development and Engagement team to define thematic focus areas for CIPHER research grants, fellowships and evidence-to-action fora.
- use evidence to spotlight critical issues for children, adolescents and young people in the HIV response and enabling the creation of opportunities for meaningful engagement of these populations.
- collaborate with different IAS teams to accurately reflect and adequately position paediatric HIV across IAS activities.
**Main Responsibilities**:
- Monitor the paediatric HIV field and proactively engage with key actors in normative agencies, programme implementation, funding agencies, civil society, industry etc. to identify gaps, define priority issues and develop a work plan of convening, education and advocacy actions.
- Design and implement activities to address strategic issues, leading on or contributing to the conceptualization and convening of meetings tailored to different audiences, capacity development and engagement activities, and advocacy actions.
- Provide technical input into and strategic guidance on IAS conference programme content, in collaboration with the IAS Conference team.
- Develop publications - for scientific and lay audiences - and other collateral.
- Contribute to concept notes, proposals, outreach and reporting to support resource mobilization and donor relations for CIPHER and related IAS initiatives, in collaboration with the IAS Development and Partnerships team.
- Perform any additional tasks requested by the Senior Manager, Biomedical HIV Science.
**Academic Qualifications**:
- Master’s degree or PhD in biomedical sciences, health sciences, public health, paediatric or other fields related to the functions of the position, or medical degree with relevant specialization.
**Work Experience**:
- At least 7 years’ experience in a similar position
- Experience working with a diversity of stakeholders in a convening and facilitating role
- Relevant scientific research and publishing experience
**Skills/Competencies**:
- Excellent knowledge of paediatric HIV preferably in an international context, as well as established networks across paediatric HIV science, programmes and advocacy
- Ability to self-motivate, propose and implement strategic initiatives in evolving environments
- Strong sense of diplomacy and excellent stakeholder management and cross-cultural interpersonal skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills - for scientific and lay audiences - and ability represent the programme and speak in public
- Highly organized, systematic and with strong analytical skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, occasionally work overtime, and to travel internationally.
**Languages**:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with full professional fluency in English.
- Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
