About the team you are joining
The Head of Industry Analysis will report to the Chief Economist and have the responsibility for developing the research agenda for the Industry Analysis workstream, in coordination with the Chief Economist, the additional workstream Heads, and our stakeholders. As a seasoned expert in the field, the Head of Industry Analysis will conduct research and provide analysis, produce ad hoc and maintain regular publications, and produce and deliver presentations in support of IATA’s internal and external stakeholders.
The Head of Industry Analysis will have one Senior Economist and one Economist as direct reports.
The Head of Industry Analysis will develop and organize the micro-economic research agenda according to a multi-year plan, in line with IATA’s business priorities, in order to create a body of research that can anticipate trends and developments in our industry. This involves maximizing on work produced across the team and coordination with the other workstreams, and notably the production of key forecasts regarding passenger and cargo volumes, as well as airlines’ financial performance. The Head of Industry Analysis will direct the work of the Senior Economist and the Economist in such a way that ad hoc requests can be met, with an emphasis on their personal development and upskilling, as well as ensuring that all tasks have adequate backup for ensured business continuity.
The Head of Industry Analysis will also be called upon to stand in for the Chief Economist as per need, principally regarding the outlook for our industry but potentially also in order to ensure cross-team delivery as per our mandate and mission, including support on economic analysis and data for the Director General at all times.
What your day would be like
Develop a long-term research agenda for analyzing airlines’ businesses and financial performance;
Ensure that ad hoc requests for industry analysis are met and coherent with overall advocacy stance;
Produce research, forecasts, publications, and presentations to support the activities of IATA’s divisions and regions covering issues such as industrial organization, value-chain analysis, aviation in the context of the global transportation sector, structural changes in the industry, competitive environment, cost structures, revenue streams, airlines’ stock-market performance, and cost of funds;
Develop and maintain key relationships internally and externally to promote IATA’s economic analysis of key issues.

Postgraduate studies in micro-economics, business, finance, statistics, and related fields, PhD an advantage;
Strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of the aviation and airline industry;
Strong quantitative skills, experience in forecasting pertaining to passengers, cargo, and airline financial performance.
Strong stakeholder management skills;
Strong personnel management and inter-personal skills;
Experience in managing research professionals;
Strong communication and commercial skills;
Fluent in English and any other language would be an asset.
Travel Required: Yes: 30%
