Head of R&d Engineering

**THE ROLE & THE TEAM**:
As a Head of Engineering for the Size and Fit Virtual Fitting Room Team, you will lead a group of engineers developing Zalando's virtual fitting room experience(s). These products are designed to enable Zalando customers to find what fits the very first time using novel approaches including: numerical mathematics, mesh processing and 3D Web GL.

- Develop, lead, manage and inspire an innovative product-driven team of 8-10 engineers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, product and design leaders on solution design, planning and implementation for projects that range in maturity from prototype through to full scale production.
- Prepare architectural proposals together with the team and engineering leaders across the Size and Fit Organization.
- Work with the team to set priorities, develop systems operations and long term research plans to evolve virtual try on experiences.
- Ensure system-reliability engineering when appropriate and general technical compliance

- You are a creative and self-driven Leader who understands how to create an environment where teams can develop innovative solutions as prototypes and scale them over time to deliver solutions that follow large scale technical patterns.
- You are comfortable working in a greenfield product team, helping distil customer problems into meaningful actions - and enjoy supporting others working with high uncertainty as they deliver customer impact.
- Hands of experience with 3D Computer Graphics and/or Numerical Simulation and Meshing
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a Software Engineer (Backend / Full stack technologies)
- Hands on experience with Java, API design, Event-Driven Architecture, SQL, In-Memory or NoSQL (ElasticSearch) Databases and Microservices in Cloud

You will join our multidisciplinary Zurich & Berlin based Sizing Team, composed of Machine Learning / Computer Vision / Deep Learning researchers, engineers, and full stack developers from 20+ different nationalities. We provide recommendations and predictions on customer size and fit choices, and conduct focused experiments using emerging technologies to solve the challenges.

You will take on this complex and important topic working side by side with our Product Specialists and Applied Scientists.
