**As Global Category Manager Air & Ocean you will report **to the Global Procurement Sr. Director of Transportation and Logistics.

You will develop and implement the category strategy that optimizes BD’s global logistics spend in the assigned Freight and Distribution commodities. The GCM will partner with Supply Chain and other cross functional partners to continuously define, refine, and complete the category strategy based upon BD’s evolving business needs and market conditions. The strategy should help BD assure supply chain continuity, compliance with regulatory laws, reduce CO2 emissions, meet BD’s quality requirements, meet social responsibility goals, drive innovation, and continuously optimize costs. The GCM has accountability for leading supplier qualification, performance, cost optimization and continuous improvement efforts through a full suite of procurement tools, but not limited to, competitive bids, should cost analysis, linear performance pricing, market benchmark, supplier relationship management programs, demand, and cost control levers; all this in partnership with BD’s Center of Excellence, Procurement Manager/s and Market Analyst.

The associate in this role works across both Procurement and Partners and demonstrates strong intuition for business and analytic capability to integrate sourcing, category, and functional strategies as well as the end-to-end supply chain inter-dependencies and the procure to pay process. The GCM supports and manages governance processes and technology enhancements for assigned categories.

**Main responsibilities will include**:

- 40% - Category Strategy development & Supplier Relationship Management with mainly global suppliers
- 20% - Strategy / Program Execution in support to the category strategy for assigned categories.
- 20% - Functional LT liaison, influence, and engagement with key partners, peers, sites, etc.
- 10% - Ensure proactive Risk Management strategies are developed and driven
- 10% - Innovation / Technology / Process improvement / Sustainability & Responsible sourcing efforts

**Detailed responsibilities will include**:
**Strategy Development**
- Develop category strategies that align with corporate and functional objectives. Strategies will be developed in conjunction with Supply chain and other cross functional partners including Quality, BD Business units, manufacturing plants, etc. The strategy will extend beyond cost value, it will cover technology and innovation, service management, governance, quality, risk, sustainability, etc.

**Execution**:

- Lead programs and global initiatives, and partners with Supply Chain Procurement Managers and the Procurement Center of Excellence to select suppliers, drive negotiations, establish and supervise contracts. Measure and review supplier performance, lead or support supplier continuous improvement programs and establish vision for and implement supplier relationship management programs.
- Accountable to ensure projects from strategy get driven and are resourced cross functionally.
- Developing means of evaluating / communicating supplier performance.
- Ensure supplier relationship management program results in value to BD based.
- In partnership with BD’s Procurement Center of Excellence, negotiate contracts, SOWs, establishing accurate SOPs.

**Achieving Quality**:

- Ensure that suppliers meet BD’s quality requirements and regulatory requirements.

**Cost Management**:

- Develop and implement effective cost management programs (Globally) to deliver year-on-year cost improvement. This may include ideation events, inflation management, continuous improvement initiatives, etc.
