Engineering Manager

EF Education First has an opening for a Software Engineering Manager in the EF International Language Campuses technology team. You will be the manager responsible, along with your team, to build, deliver and maintain our Enterprise Core Systems that support Sales and Production, joining a our team that EF is setting up in our brand new amazing headquarter in Zürich.

As we are building up engineering organization, your role will include collaborating with our business line to understand the requirements and the implications within the systems that you are going to manage. You will participate in the creation of proof-of-concepts and you will be often working hands-on with local and remote development teams to kick start projects and coach team members.

This role includes some amount of hands-on activities and you will be often implementing solutions or coaching the team. You play a crucial role in balancing the importance of quality, normally promoted by the architects, with the importance of delivering a working system that fulfil the business needs.

Your colleagues are part of multiple agile development teams in Zurich and you will often interact with other development teams around the world. Some limited travel might be part of your duties.

As a foundation of your skills, you have a strong OOD background in.NET, JAVA or JavaScript / TypeScript / Node and experience working across the full stack in large and complex enterprise systems. You have a passion for resilient technology and practical design and the ability to lead & motivate developers while at the same time being an expert coder.

**YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES**

Lead, coach and mentor your reporting team members, identifying their strengths, working around their weaknesses and allowing them to grow and excel in their area of competence, maintaining high engagement and motivation
Own the delivery of the systems that your teams are responsible for, being the technical reference figure for the system running in production
Ensure teams follow the direction provided by the Technical Roadmaps defined for each team as well as the Engineering Strategic Principles defined for the organization
Coordinate with architects and key technical figures in other teams / systems to support, review and promote architectural choices, strategies and common activities that impact other systems
Select and hire the right members of your team, building up a community of exceptional software engineers in charge of delivering prime quality software to the business
Perform management duties like one on one meetings, feedback sessions, performance reviews
Participate hands-on in the development of the systems, working along with your team members, providing mentorship and coaching to the SCRUM teams. You might also occasionally be part of one of these teams.
Make recommendations, provide guidelines and enforce compliance to best practices in software development, ensuring that team members follow proper coding practices and methodologies

**YOUR LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS**

At least 3 year of experience as a Team Leader or in similar manager role with a team of at least 4 people
Passion about management, leadership and technology at the same time
Experience (nice to have, expertise) in Agile Processes and modern software development methodologies
Great attitude towards people management, conflict resolution, team dynamics
Facilitator, coach, mentor, ability to solve and mitigate the typical problems arising in team leadership
Organized, structured mindset, process-oriented attitude, ability to plan complex groups of tasks, focus and get the important things done
Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences

**YOUR SOFTWARE ENGINEERING SKILLS**

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline
5+ years working in software development of complex business critical industry solutions
Strong background in Microsoft.NET (or Java but with
