About the team you are joining

IATA's Sustainability and Economics division works with airlines, regulators and civil society to develop and implement policies, standards, and solutions that support the sustainable development of air transport and mitigate its impact on the environment. As part of the Energy Transition team, you will be able to participate in preparations for industry meetings and other aviation environment events. You will report to the Assistant Director, Energy Transition/Industry Programs and will be support the development of data platforms to track the progress linked to the aviation industry’s climate mitigation targets. Furthermore, you will operate different systems and manage the data related to these systems, including reference data.

What your day would be like

Your role will be to assist with the implementation of environmental data solutions linked to airline CO2 emissions, voluntary carbon offsets, and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). As part of the assistant manager role, your daily work will be focusing on comprehensive data analysis and the interrogation of environmental related data sets. A primary objective of your work will be the collection of environmental data from member airlines and to analyze related metrics to substantiate the industry’s progress towards its environmental objectives.

You will assist with the implementation of environmental technology solutions and the ability to work cross-divisional and with different IT vendors. You have a good understanding of the underlying data elements and processes that drive environmental performance of an airline, e.g. fuel monitoring/reporting, emissions performance.

You will be in regular contact with airlines to assist them with their reporting requirements under mandatory environmental reporting schemes (e.g. CORSIA) or support them with any other e.g. voluntary environmental initiatives airlines might be involved in. This also entails an understanding of airlines’ needs and how they may benefit from existing or future IATA support mechanisms. Specific tasks include:
**General data management**:

- Maintain and update pertinent databases to ensure all support systems such as FRED+ reference up-to-date information.
- Support the tracking of the industry’s environmental performance:

- Support the annual data collection exercise to track progress
- Assist with the development of both industry and airline-specific progress reports
- Participate in IT system development to facilitate data collection
- Close collaboration with aviation stakeholders to ensure the most appropriate metric(s) continue to be used.

**Airline, systems and user support**:

- Assist with user support linked to different systems or platforms, e.g. FRED+, ACE, IATA CO2 CONNECT. The role involves:

- Direct airline interaction and support in all environmental aspects
- Access and onboarding to systems/platforms.
- Providing an understanding of the data reporting requirements.
- Data analytical support, internal and external.
- Advocating for and promoting system use among airlines and other eligible parties
- Support system enhancements including:

- assist with the sprint planning;
- help developing detailed user stories;
- user acceptance testing in coordination with the system lead.

**Team support**
- Prepare presentations and support the team on industry meetings and other aviation environment related events.
- Assist in the preparation of product development papers and business cases.
- Ad-hoc support of the wider Sustainability & Economics projects/initiatives
- Subject matter expert (SME) support to relevant existing and new IATA commercial products.

1 to 3 years of experience and a university degree in a discipline supporting your contribution to the team.
Experience in the aviation industry with a good understanding of environment and sustainability matters, flight operations, fuel management or similar.
Experience in managing data sets and outstanding qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
Excellent written and spoken English, with proficiency in additional languages being an asset.
Flexible team worker with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Availability to travel occasionally; you enjoy working with different cultures.
