Global Head of Hsec

**Main Purpose**:The principal responsibility of this role is to shape and lead Trafigura’s global Health, Safety, Security & Environment function by reviewing, updating and improving the Group HSSE and risk management policy, helping to embed a contemporary, sector-leading strategy that aligns with Trafigura’s broader strategic and commercial objectives. This is a highly influential and visible role; the Head of HSSE will be responsible for driving lasting cultural change both internally and across the global supply chain, as well as promoting creative and innovative leadership around the risk management agenda.

- Lead and direct global HSSE and risk management, providing functional expertise and establishing world-class standards across the global Trafigura Group and its supply chain
- Review and update the HSSE strategy and management framework, ensuring a collective vision that extends beyond systems and compliance, and that focuses on people, behaviour and culture
- Lead and develop a global team to support the achievement of industry leading HSSE performance
- Play a key role in the global review of Trafigura’s policy and management frameworks
- Understand, manage and control risk of all operational assets owned by the Group
- Understand, influence and empower a complex supply chain which includes trading operations, shipping, pipelines, warehouses and mines
- Facilitate risk management best practice, learning and knowledge sharing across a diverse portfolio
- Take ownership and accountability for global emergency response and crisis management
- Be the external representative for the Group on specific topics and relationships, including improving stakeholder understanding and generating support for Trafigura’s HSSE performance
- Continuously scan the external environment to manage risks, identify opportunities and trends, and recommend changes to business policies and strategy where appropriate
- Develop a Group-wide HSSE competency framework and support development and roll-out of associated communication and training programmes
- Lead on HSSE due diligence on behalf of the Group in relation to new acquisitions and both new and existing commercial relationships
- Influence and empower operational asset and supply chain leaders to shape and implement robust plans that drive performance improvement
- Oversee investigation of all fatalities, major injuries, dangerous occurrences and significant pollution threats
- Work closely with the Group leadership team to help shape climate change and decarbonisation strategy

**Skills and abilities**
- Significant operational experience in one of the following sectors: metals & mineral extraction, oil & energy production, petrochemicals, shipping & logistics, transportation, aviation, power generation or major infrastructure
- A strategic thinker with expertise in building and embedding world-class risk management strategies
- Able to demonstrate deep experience of delivering performance improvements, cultural change and enhancing management systems and policies
- A pragmatic approach; able to deliver best practice in a straightforward and realistic manner
- Demonstrable evidence of engaging with key stakeholders at a senior level (including internal management, supply chain and regulators) to achieve desired outcomes
- Cross functional leadership experience, with the ability to inspire colleagues to take ownership and accountability of risk management performance to ensure a shared journey of success
- Demonstrable evidence of creating and embedding behaviour change programmes in a complex organisation
- Significant leadership capability with sufficient gravitas and credibility to challenge conventional thinking and create innovative solutions
- Highly engaging and compelling communication style with the ability to win hearts and minds at all levels
- International outlook with experience leading teams across geographically disparate locations
- Operational HSSE and risk management experience in emerging markets and remote locations is desirable
