Designed to enable scientific laboratories to manage complex experiment workflows, acquire and process instrument data, and to build complex integrations through Java plugins, Agilent’s SLIMS is the company’s flagship scientific laboratory information management system.

In this internship in Lausanne, you will collaborate with SLIMS solutions architects and the SLIMS Cloud team, to research and develop how to turn a Raspberry Pi into a SLIMS edge runtime and IoT environment. The goal is to build a self-contained device that can be deployed in customer networks, and which is fully ready upon boot-up to:

- establish communication with a corresponding SLIMS Cloud server deployed in AWS.
- push plugin metrics and heartbeats to integrate with standard SLIMS Cloud monitoring.
- allow remote troubleshooting and restart of the SLIMS plugin system.
- allow customers to restart the SLIMS Cloud server.
- allow customers to receive SLIMS Cloud server monitoring data.
- receive remote update or diagnostic commands from cloud supervisor service.

You will program in Java and shell script, develop custom SLIMS plugin components, learn Linux systems internals, and learn how to export, interpret, and visualize performance data.

**Qualifications**:

- Programming knowledge or experience beyond 1st year introductory courses in informatics
- You should be comfortable with Object Oriented Programming concepts, ideally in Java or a closely related language like C# or Python
- Be comfortable with the command line on Linux, but you are not required to be an expert Linux administrator
