Your mission at Climeworks is to develop porous materials, including porous and structured polymers, to ensure Climeworks’ competitive advantage in solid sorbents for our direct air capture technology.
- The sorbent material needs to be developed according to the performance (ability of the sorbent to capture CO2 within our process), sorbent consumption rate (degradation, lifetime), and emissions (life cycle assessment).
- You lead and execute projects that require extensive experience in structured and porous, polymeric materials, and techniques to prepare these materials in the chemical laboratory.
- You instill efficient team and department collaboration, assuring continuous learning and development.
- You generate patents in the field of materials for direct air capture.
- You implement a safety-first culture in laboratories and take responsibility in accurately documenting your experimental work.
- You have completed a PhD in polymer chemistry or materials science with a focus on polymer synthesis.
- You have more than 15 years of industrial experience in polymer chemistry, preferably in R&D.
- You bring advanced practical and theoretical knowledge in polymer synthesis, emulsion, power feed, suspension and seed polymerization.
- You have an in-depth knowledge in chemical and physical characterization of polymeric materials: i.e. nitrogen sorption (BET), porosimetry (mercury intrusion), microscopies (SEM, TEM), solid-state spectroscopies (FT-IR, Raman), materials testing (TGA, DSC, tensile tests), X-ray diffraction (PXRD, SXRD).
- Additional technical requirements: Living and non-living radical, anionic, and cationic polymerization; Knowledge in alternative/bio-based polymers; Experience with stimuli-responsive polymers
- You have knowledge in development and commercialization of polymeric materials.
- You have a good understanding of the latest industry trends & methods.
- You have a proven track record in leading projects and testing campaigns.
- You have experience in evaluating and generating IP and ensuring FTO in form of patents; with a track record of patents and publications.
- You have experience in supporting, building up and maintaining laboratory infrastructure, including databases for materials.
- You are experienced with HSE regulations; strongly supporting a safety-first culture.
- You have experience in mentoring junior staff, i.e. chemists and technicians.
- You have a passion for new technologies and thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
- You are fluent in English and any German knowledge is a plus.
