Physician Researcher in Metabolic Women's Health

The University of Bern and University Hospital Bern, Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology, Nutritional Medicine and Metabolism (UDEM) is seeking an ambitious and highly motivated individual for a PhD position focusing on Metabolic Physiology in Women's Health.
About the PositionThis is a fully funded PhD position, with compensation aligned with SNSF standards. The employment is fixed term for 1 year, renewable yearly.
Job DescriptionWe are looking for a researcher to address knowledge gaps in women's health and physiology, specifically the role of sex hormone changes on metabolism in the context of diabetes, menopause, and GLP-1 signaling. The work will be embedded in interdisciplinary projects combining clinical and pre-clinical research, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and digital innovation grants.
Responsibilities- You will engage in mechanistic trials using multi-dimensional metabolic profiling and novel analytical approaches to experimental and clinical data.
- You will acquire a variety of methodological and transferable skills through interdisciplinary training.
- You will have the opportunity to present your work at international conferences, publish peer-reviewed manuscripts, and contribute to outreach activities.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A master's degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, health and technology, biology, pharmacy, medicine, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, and data literacy.
- The ability to learn and adapt quickly and think critically.
- Experience in biostatistics, mathematical modeling of physiological systems, human physiology, and proficiency in R, Python, or Matlab is an advantage.
- Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken, and good German skills are a plus.
- Good communication and organization skills, as well as stamina and accurate working style.
