At Novartis Farmacéutica, we are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our R&D organization, you will be responsible for protecting and managing intellectual property (IP) for our innovative projects.

About the Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert counseling on IP strategies and opportunities for our R&D clients.
  • Building and managing patent portfolios for our R&D projects by identifying inventions and preparing, prosecuting, maintaining, and defending patent filings.
  • Renderrin legal opinions with respect to patentability, validity, and freedom to operate, and formulating patent strategies that secure IP positions, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and enable IP defense(s).
  • Applying deep expertise in national patent law and practice to devise patent strategies and advice.
  • Understanding other forms of protection relating to regulatory exclusivity and applying as required.
  • Maximizing effective communication with colleagues and leadership in the legal and IP function as well as the R&D organization.
  • Building and managing external relationships with outside counsel and collaborators, including substantial interactions within a multicultural global patent function.
  • Conducting due diligence assessments and counseling based on these assessments, including FTO, infringement, and validity analyses, and risk evaluation and mitigation.
  • Providing IP support for transactional projects, such as research collaborations and in-licensing opportunities, including advice on contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Performing timely review of publication requests.
  • Deliiver work results on-time, on-target, and within budget.
  • Continuing professional development and contributing to the development of IP colleagues.
